Rubber Steel Gaskets – High-Stability Reinforced Sealing for High-Pressure Systems

Rubber Steel Gaskets (often referred to as Rubber-Metal Gaskets or G-ST type seals) are high-performance sealing solutions featuring a structural steel core fully vulcanized within an elastomer jacket. Unlike standard soft gaskets, the integrated steel reinforcement provides exceptional mechanical stability, preventing gasket "blow-out" even under extreme pressure fluctuations or high tightening torques.

By combining the elasticity of premium rubbers (EPDM, NBR, FKM) with the rigidity of a stainless or carbon steel insert, these gaskets ensure a leak-proof seal on uneven flange surfaces. Our Rubber-to-Steel Gaskets are engineered to meet international standards including DIN EN 1514-1 and ANSI B16.5, making them the industry standard for gas distribution, water treatment, and chemical processing pipelines.

Engineering Excellence: The Steel-Core Advantage

Anti-Blowout & High Stability

The primary function of the steel insert is to maintain the gasket's dimensional integrity under stress. Rubber Steel Gaskets eliminate the risks associated with traditional rubber gaskets in large-diameter applications.

  • Blow-out Safety: The vulcanized steel ring prevents the rubber from being pushed out of the flange by internal media pressure.
  • Self-Centering Design: The rigid structure makes handling and alignment significantly easier during installation, especially for vertical piping.
  • Low Tightening Torque: Requires less bolt force to achieve a seal compared to flat gaskets, protecting plastic or glass-lined flanges.
  • Corrosion Protection: The steel core is entirely encased in rubber, protecting it from aggressive chemical media.

Elastomer Jacket Selection Guide

✬ EPDM (WRAS/ACS)

Superior for drinking water, wastewater, and HVAC systems. Resistant to ozone, UV, and temperatures up to +150°C.

✬ NBR (DVGW Approved)

The industry standard for natural gas, oils, and fuels. Offers excellent mechanical strength and aging resistance.

✬ FKM (Viton® Equivalent)

For aggressive chemical pipelines and high-heat environments (up to +200°C). Resistant to fuels and solvents.

✬ CSM / HNBR Options

Specialized polymers for specific industrial requirements, including high ozone or specialized acid resistance.

Industry Application Framework

Rubber Steel Gaskets are the preferred choice for sectors where safety and long-term reliability are paramount, particularly in infrastructures where leak repair is costly.

  • ◌ Municipal Gas Supply: NBR reinforced gaskets for underground gas transport systems.
  • ◌ Desalination Plants: EPDM gaskets with stainless steel cores for high-salinity water.
  • ◌ Chemical Infrastructure: FKM gaskets for aggressive acid transport and storage.
  • ◌ Power Generation: Cooling water circuit seals and pressure vessel gaskets.

Reinforced Gasket FAQ

Q: Can Rubber Steel Gaskets be reused?

A: While the steel core provides high durability, we recommend replacing the gasket if the elastomer jacket shows signs of permanent deformation or chemical attack to ensure zero-leakage performance.

Q: Are these gaskets suitable for plastic flanges?

A: Yes. Because they require lower tightening torques to achieve a seal, they are excellent for PVC, PE, and GRP flanges, reducing the risk of flange cracking.

Q: How do they compare to standard rubber gaskets?

A: Rubber Steel Gaskets offer much higher pressure resistance, blow-out safety, and ease of handling due to their rigid internal core.
