Product Description:

PTFE Encapsulated O-Rings combine the unparalleled chemical resistance of PTFE with the elasticity and recovery of an elastomeric core. This hybrid structure provides a sealing solution that outperforms traditional O-rings in aggressive chemicals, high-temperature systems, and demanding industrial applications.

These O-rings deliver the benefits of both worlds:

• PTFE jacket for chemical inertness, low friction, and extended durability

• Elastomer core for resilience, compression, and sealing force

This makes PTFE Encapsulated O-Rings a preferred choice for industries that cannot compromise on sealing reliability.

Why Choose PTFE Encapsulated O-Rings?

PTFE-encapsulated designs offer several performance advantages:

1. Outstanding Chemical Resistance

PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is compatible with nearly all industrial chemicals, including:
• Strong acids & alkalis
• Solvents, hydrocarbons, aromatic fluids
• Oxidizers & corrosive media
Its non-reactive nature ensures long-term stability in chemically harsh environments.

2. Excellent Thermal Stability

PTFE Encapsulated O-Rings perform reliably across wide temperature ranges, typically:
-60°C to +250°C (varies by core material)
This makes them ideal for high-temperature production lines, CIP/SIP processes, and thermal cycling applications.

3. Low Friction & Wear Resistance

The PTFE jacket provides:
• Low coefficient of friction
• Reduced wear and sticking
• Improved installation performance

4. Flexible, Elastic Sealing Force

The elastomer core delivers the compression and recovery needed for leak-free sealing that PTFE alone cannot achieve.

Core Options for PTFE Encapsulated O-Rings

PTFE Encapsulated O-Rings are available with two main elastomer cores:

▲ FKM (Viton®) Core

• Excellent compression set resistance
• Higher temperature stability
• Suitable for aggressive chemical environments
Temperature Range: -20°C to +204°C

▲ Silicone Core

• Superior flexibility & low-temperature elasticity
• Ideal for applications requiring low squeeze force
Temperature Range: -60°C to +200°C

PTFE Jacket Types

PTFE Jacket Types

Two PTFE-based jacket materials are commonly used:

Jacket Material

Temperature Range

Features

Compliance

PTFE FEP Jacket

-60°C to +204°C

Excellent chemical resistance, low friction

FDA, USP Class VI options

PTFE PFA Jacket

-60°C to +260°C

Higher mechanical strength, superior thermal stability

FDA, USP Class VI options

FEP is suited for most standard chemical applications,
while PFA is preferred in environments requiring extreme durability and high temperatures.

Solid-Core vs. Hollow-Core

PTFE Encapsulated O-Rings can be supplied with:

● Solid-Core (Standard)

• Best recovery
• Maximum sealing force
• Superior resistance to compression set

Recommended for static sealing in critical environments.

● Hollow-Core (Optional)

• Reduced installation force
• More flexible sealing
• Suitable for delicate equipment or thin-walled hardware

Application-Specific Selection

product-1400-344

The correct PTFE Encapsulated O-Ring depends on:
• Chemical exposure
• Temperature range
• Pressure & sealing force
• Dynamic vs static application
• Hardware geometry

PTFE Encapsulated O-Rings are widely used in:
• Chemical processing equipment
• Food & pharmaceutical manufacturing
• Semiconductor & electronic industries
• Petrochemical & refinery systems
• Pumps, valves, reactors, mixers, and instrumentation

Installation Guidelines

Because PTFE jackets have limited stretch, proper installation is essential.

1. Pre-Heating (Recommended)

Heat the O-rings to improve flexibility:
Hot Water Method
• Place in 100°C water for 3 minutes
• Install immediately while warm

Oven Method
• Heat at 100°C for 10–15 minutes
• Install while still warm

2. Avoid Damage

• Ensure hardware edges are smooth
• Do not overstretch the O-ring
• Use lubrication if compatible with the process
