❓ How do I choose the correct hardness (Durometer) for my vibration mounts?
The goal of isolation is to achieve a natural frequency lower than the disturbing frequency of your machine. ❓ Should I install bobbin mounts in compression or in shear?
Rubber is much stronger in compression (pushing down) than in shear (sliding sideways) or tension (pulling apart). Cylindrical bobbin mounts should always be loaded primarily in compression to carry the static weight of the machine. They can handle secondary lateral shear forces, but should never be installed in pure tension, as this risks catastrophic failure.
