EPDM Material Description

Introduction：

EPDM is a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and non-conjugated diolefins.

Good resistance to sunlight, weathering and ozone.

It has poor resistance to petroleum oils and fuel. Good heat and compression set resistance

rade names include Nordel® (DuPont Dow Elastomers), Vistalon® (ExxonMobil Chemical), Epsyn® (DSM Elastomers), Royalene® (Uniroyal Chemical), and Epcar® (B.F. Goodrich).

1. Low Density & High Fillability

•EPDM has a naturally low density of 0.87, making it one of the lightest common rubber materials.

•It allows high levels of oil extension and filler loading, effectively reducing product cost.

2. Excellent Aging Resistance

EPDM demonstrates outstanding durability in harsh environments:

•Superior weather resistance, ozone resistance, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance, steam resistance, and electrical insulation.

•Suitable for long-term operation at 120°C, and short-term or intermittent exposure at 150–200°C.

•With proper antioxidants, the upper temperature limit can be further improved.

•Peroxide-cured EPDM offers even higher stability in extreme conditions.

•With ozone concentration at 50 pphm and 30% elongation, EPDM can withstand over 150 hours without cracking.

3. Strong Corrosion Resistance

Due to low polarity and low unsaturation, EPDM provides excellent resistance to many polar substances:

•Resistant to alcohols, acids, alkalis, oxidizing agents, refrigerants, detergents, animal/vegetable oils, ketones, and many polar chemicals.

•Less stable in hydrocarbon solvents, especially gasoline, benzene, aromatic liquids, and mineral oils.

•Prolonged exposure to strong acids may still degrade performance.

In ISO/TO 7620 testing, nearly 400 corrosive gases and liquids were evaluated, and EPDM behavior is classified as:
